FedEx Freight

FedEx Freight is FedEx's less-than-truckload service covering North America. Connect your account and the quote desk agent pulls live FedEx Freight rates and transit times while the customer is still on the phone.

FedEx Freight is the LTL arm of FedEx, and its API returns the rates on your account, not a public tariff. Connected to Cargofy, the planner requests a rate in Sales, gets the contracted rate and transit time back, and books the pickup from the same screen. The shipping desk lead usually requests it; the IT admin who holds the FedEx Developer Portal credentials switches it on.

What teams use it for

Price a pallet order while the customer waits

A customer asks for a price on four pallets from Memphis to Atlanta. Sales validates the zips, piece dimensions and handling unit weights and calls Rate Freight LTL with your account number. The digital worker puts the account rate, surcharges and transit time into the offer with your margin applied. The planner no longer re-types the shipment into the FedEx site and copies the number into a spreadsheet.

Compare FedEx Freight with your other LTL carriers

A rate request for six pallets from Nashville to Charlotte lands in Sales. The digital worker sends the same lane, weights and accessorials to FedEx Freight and your other connected LTL carriers and lines up the answers: rate, surcharges and transit days in the same columns. The planner sees where FedEx Freight wins on price and where another carrier wins on days, picks one, and the choice is stored with the quote.

Pick the right Freight Direct level for a no-dock delivery

Some consignees have no dock: a clinic, a store, a restaurant. The planner flags the delivery as no-dock on the order, and the digital worker requests Freight Direct rates for the lane. The four levels (Basic, Basic by appointment, Standard and Premium) appear as options next to the dock-to-dock rate in Sales. Customer service calls the receiver, confirms whether an appointment is needed and selects the matching level, so the quote carries the right service and surcharges before it goes out.

Book, print the BOL and schedule the pickup in one step

When the customer accepts, the digital worker creates the shipment as a pre-tender, generates the BOL and a label per handling unit into Documents, checks pickup availability and books the pickup for the ready time on the order. The shipping desk prints the paperwork from Documents.

Cancel a shipment before tender

The receiver pushes delivery back a week after the shipment is created but before it is tendered. The planner changes the date on the order in Load Hub. The digital worker deletes the pre-tender shipment in FedEx Freight, cancels the pickup before its ready time and re-quotes the lane with the new dates. The planner sees the new rate and transit time on the quote in Sales. Once a shipment is tendered, cancellation stays with FedEx Freight.

How it fits your stack

Your TMS or ERP stays the system of record for the order; Cargofy holds the quote, the shipment and the documents. Cargofy reads rates, surcharges, transit times and shipment status from FedEx Freight, and writes shipments, BOL requests and pickup requests for quotes you accept. Setup is OAuth 2.0 client credentials from the FedEx Developer Portal, entered once by your admin. Freight invoices are not read, so billing stays in your FedEx account. Cargofy covers LTL only, not parcel or Express.

Who it is for

Shippers in North America with a FedEx Freight account and contracted LTL pricing, moving palletised freight several times a week. Transport planners and customer service quote and book in Sales, the shipping desk prints BOLs, and the IT admin owns the credentials.
