Old Dominion Freight Line

Old Dominion Freight Line is a US less-than-truckload carrier with nationwide coverage. Connect your account and the quote desk agent pulls live Old Dominion rates and transit times while the customer is still on the phone.

Old Dominion Freight Line is one of the largest LTL carriers in the United States, with REST APIs for rate estimates, transit times, BOLs, pickups, documents and tracking. Connected to Cargofy, ODFL is one line in the LTL comparison in Sales, and an accepted quote carries through to the BOL, the pickup and the POD without logging into ODFL.com. The transport manager usually requests it; the IT admin sets it up once ODFL enables API access.

What teams use it for

Quote by class and density without a rate sheet

A request comes in for three pallets from Greensboro to Columbus. Sales sends the NMFC class, billable weight, dimensions and unit count to the Rate Estimate API, which runs the density calculation on ODFL's side. The digital worker puts the rate and the Transit Time result into the offer with your margin. The planner stops keying shipments into the ODFL site.

Price accessorials up front

A request comes in for two pallets to a residential address with liftgate and inside delivery. The planner enters the services on the order in Sales, and the digital worker sends them with the quote to the Rate Estimate API, which accepts up to 30 accessorials. The rate includes every service, so the quote from Sales matches the invoice ODFL will send. If the receiver asks for time-definite delivery, the worker requests OD Guaranteed and OD Guaranteed AM as tariff options and adds them as upgrades.

Compare ODFL with the rest of your LTL panel

A rate request for four pallets from Greensboro to Columbus lands in Sales. The digital worker sends it to ODFL and your other connected LTL carriers, normalises the NMFC class and accessorial names ODFL returns, and lines the quotes up by lane, services and transit time. The planner sees ODFL next to FedEx Freight and XPO, picks on price or days, and the choice is stored with the quote.

File the eBOL and book the pickup on acceptance

When the customer accepts, the digital worker submits the BOL through the eBOL API in the NMFTA format ODFL expects and requests the pickup for the ready date on the order. Consignee, class and piece count come from the quote, so the BOL matches it. The shipping desk sees the pickup confirmed on the load and the BOL number where the driver will need it.

Close the file with the POD and the invoice

After delivery, the POD usually sits on the carrier portal, the invoice arrives by email, and AP matches them by hand. The digital worker pulls the BOL, the POD and the invoice PDF through the Document API and attaches all three to the load in Documents. The AP clerk sees the quoted rate, the invoice and the signed POD together and approves or disputes with the evidence in one place.

How it fits your stack

Your TMS or ERP keeps the order; Cargofy keeps the quote, the BOL, the pickup and the document set. Cargofy reads rate estimates, transit times, shipment status and the BOL, POD and invoice PDFs from ODFL, and writes BOLs and pickup requests for the quotes you accept. Setup is an API token or your ODFL.com account credentials, entered once in Cargofy settings. ODFL enables API access per account and it is not self-serve; Volume LTL needs a separate request.

Who it is for

US shippers with an ODFL account and contracted LTL pricing who ship pallets weekly. Transport planners and customer service quote in Sales, the shipping desk files BOLs and pickups, AP pulls invoices from Documents, and the IT admin owns the credentials.
